I don’t know about you, but I GREW UP to this song. My parents blasted it loud enough for the entire neighborhood to hear. It’s one of those songs that when I hear it, I go back in time. I can smell the Aussie Hairspray my mom would use to mimic the “Bon Jovi” feathered bangs look. I can remember my dad playing air guitar and belting out some hideous high pitched screech that only Steven Tyler himself could ever pull off. This song brings back amazing memories for me, memories that will forever be engrained in my mind. Now that I’m older and REALLY able to HEAR the lyrics, the song is so much more meanigful to me. When I feel like giving up I just remember these fun and inspiring Aerosmith facts;
The lead singer of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler, wrote “Dream On”. It took himSIX YEARS, on & off!
Six year guys! This is evidence that nothing amazing is created overnight. Be patient, keep chipping away at your dreams.
Steven Tylerfound a suitcase of money outside of where the band was staying, and used the money to purchase theRMI keyboard that Aerosmith used to perform “Dream On” for the first time.
There is no such thing as accidents. The bands intentions were so clear, they “randomly” found just enough money to purchase the equipment they needed. Can you say Synchronicity?
Steven Tyler’s father was a classically trained musician, and when Steven was three years old, he would lie underneath the piano and listen to his dad play. In his book,Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?, Tyler writes, “That’s where I got that ‘Dream On’ chordage.”
Isn’t it amazing how powerful music is? What is even more amazing is how powerful our mind is. What you hear over and over as a small child becomes part of who you are. Maybe that’s why I never stop dreaming, the song “Dream On” has literally become part of who I am.

Irony, again, how a song about not giving up actually kept them going.
‘Dream On’ came of Steven Tyler playing the piano when he was about 17 or 18. He didn’t know anything about writing a song. It was just this little sonnet that he started playing one day. He never thought that it would end up being a real song.”
Isn’t it interesting how some of the most innovative ideas pop up without much thought? Divine intervention perhaps?
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry didn’t like this song. He explained toClassic Rockmagazine in 2002: “Back in those days you made your mark playing live. And to me rock ‘n’ roll’s all about energy and putting on a show. Those were the things that attracted me to rock ‘n’ roll, but ‘Dream On’ was a ballad. I didn’t really appreciate the musicality of it until later, but I did know it was a great song, so we put it in our set”.
This is a perfect lesson on the fact that not everyone is going to like what you do. Trust yourself, and keep moving anyway.
Tyler played the piano on this song. It provided an interlude at concerts where he could sit behind a piano instead of running around on stage.

Talk about the feels. I lost my step-dad to suicide in 2008. He was a huge fan of both, Soundgarden and Aerosmith, so watching this gave me peace and great sadness at the same time.
